Link (Poetry)
29th January 2012
For Anne Lewis-Smith
A voice from the past —
a name — the sound familiar
as a rhyming verse
snagged on a memory
I am reading your last printed words —
hear the echo strengthening
the impression left of you —
the tone — the lilt — the grace.
I have your letters still —
those few exchanges old
but brought to mind the moment
I heard you’d gone.
Now a new connection’s made —
your voice subtle on the page
is comfort singing soft —
the link un-lost.
