Little Bombs (Poetry)

02nd December 2020
How dared we dream to live this long
when under threat of nuclear bomb
and scary headlines loomed each day
to doom the hapless child at play

As cold war waged in heavy print
with leaders locked in argument
another generation grew
endured the senseless drama through

Unrest and social discontent
financial winters came and went
we somehow weathered storm by storm
our wits grown sharper — trust transformed

and questioning Big Brother’s voice
his loony laws — each crazy choice
since now the threat is everywhere
sly little bombs that poison air

Again the headlines rant and rave
spread apprehension wave on wave
statistics rise statistics fall . . .
                                             .
                                              .
Their bombs may not exist at all
