Little Dancer Aged Fourteen (Poetry)
12th August 2012
A sculpture by Edgar Degas
Poised, listening
to the inner beat —
and readying the spirit
to take flight.
Captured, this calm moment
as she meditates on grace —
perfection still elusive
haunts her face.
Her body strong
limbs await the music’s cue —
the first flex of muscles
taut as a held breath.
Poised, listening
to the inner beat —
and readying the spirit
to take flight.
Captured, this calm moment
as she meditates on grace —
perfection still elusive
haunts her face.
Her body strong
limbs await the music’s cue —
the first flex of muscles
taut as a held breath.
