Living There (Poetry)

21st July 2019
I believed in it — that house beside the sea
I trusted in that vision faithfully
as though far-off predictions might come true
as fate plays out it slowly fades from view

It was a dream — a fiction she passed on
as something real. Too late I know she’s wrong
there is no happy ending planned for me
a nice idea I swallowed foolishly

I really was too gullible by half
and if life weren’t so painful I might laugh
Yet still amidst deep feelings of despair
I let myself imagine living there
