Lost To White (Poetry)
21st April 2013
All a spotless dream in white —
this pure goose-feather-cradled sleep
rocking weightless — swaddled tight
in snow-spun images that keep
whirling through the edgeless light.
From clouded chasms spirits leap
then tumble blank-faced out of sight
where sugar glaciers carve deep
their indentations. Studded night
gives birth and Actic blizzards heap —
grown to crystal mountain height
and jagged ice-formed daggers weep
melting slow without a fight —
freeze and thaw their liquids seep
colourless and blinding-bright —
inch by inch frost fingers creep...
While nerveless doves in whispered flight
wing like angels through the steep-
sided valley — never quite
touching down — their task to sweep
subzero acres lost to white.
