Love Undelivered (Poetry)

I sent a letter to my love
the Royal Mail they lost it
tracked halfway to Pontypridd
thus far by wireless docket

Then poof! — it slid right off the grid
mislaid like untold others
that share the fate of lines derailed
so never reach their lovers

Those famous couples in the past
exchanged warm thoughts and feelings
despatched sweet missives confident
of privacy when sealing

No fears of loss or tampering
the service truly royal
but times have changed and none would guess
how many joys would spoil

My love resides in Durham town
and still awaits some word
I’d sooner trust war’s pigeon post
and give RM the bird
