Lucy's Diamonds (Poetry)

25th March 2012
Everything shines fire — it is a whole world set alight
where stars have touched the tinder-dry dull day
and sparks have flown — sprayed out their crystal-white
the lawn a diamond cut for a bright girl
                                to dance her life upon.

Her eyes are full — tear-droplets streak her empty face
diamond dust hangs glitter in her hair
she waltzes in a waterfall — a spill of jewels
fall from her mouth and scatter — scratch
                                the magic windowpane.

She’s in a dream — she is the dream — she slides
glass-slippered down the staircase of the sun
and morning melts the plastic in her heart
the fire’s gone out — the sky-blue pills all gone.
