Maud At Work (Poetry)

16th May 2022
One window — just one source of light
four square panes let in the view
quartered neatly framing sight
the picture plain in green and blue

Today is dull and overcast
tomorrow’s weather-reel will change
and muted colours shine — outlast
the casual glance and narrowed range

She paints that same essential scene
with subtle variations hid
like clues for those who likewise dream
there’s gold within the landscape’s grid

The one-room cottage cluttered by
old canvasses piled high and wild
she focuses on grass and sky
obsessive as a gifted child
