Memo To All Aliens (Poetry)

08th January 2023
We know you lurk among us
there’s no reasonable doubt
you’re nursing vile intentions
which, in time, will all spill out

Your plans are secret, though it’s certain
one of you will let it slip
spill the beans, show true colours
blow your cover, lose your grip ...

While there’s many disbelievers
who are blinkered and naive —
simple souls you can rely on
some aren’t easy to deceive

You’ve perfected human manners
and your camouflage is great
but there’s always something missing
you just failed to calculate

We may not be the smartest race
we can’t be blamed for that
yet there’s some ferret-gene detects
each time we smell a rat

That old alarm bell’s clanging
so in the interest of fair play
this memo is a warning —
the game’s up as of today!

Our home planet’s overcrowded
and you’re not listed in the book
you just barged in uninvited
so take the hint — go sling your hook!

END OF MESSAGE

PS If you need some more persuading
(HG Wells provides a clue)
there’s this nasty bug they’re spreading
a big brother to the flu
