My God (Poetry)
21st February 2016
My god is not the same
as any other
he’s made to order —
fashioned in a sense
to suit my changing needs
and I could call him friend, perhaps
big brother
we talk sometimes for hours
about this and that
I find it helps
in times of stress
to keep me on the rails.
I’m glad he’s always there
for we all need someone to believe in
but in truth
I don’t want to share
my god — for we
are mutually exclusive
him and me
we have this understanding
three’s a crowd
besides which faith insists
love surely has to be
a survival skill.
