My Lady Spider (Poetry)

20th May 2012
So light of foot!
So slim of leg!
Dark crowding thoughts
brood in her head.

Her silk as fine
as moonbeams spun
she waits so still
for him to come —

one perfect prince
to risk that climb
up to her web
where dewdrops shine...

She trembles there
anticipates
a tenderness
well worth the wait.

Her shivers send
a soft distress
along the strands
her feet caress

to touch a nerve
convey her needs —
entice him where
his nature leads.

He’ll be entranced
and suffer bliss —
his whole life’s quest
reduced to this

blind passion — he’s
quite unaware
of what’s behind
her black-eyed stare.

He’ll woo and win
her heart and soul
but then she’ll turn
and eat him whole.

His fate is bound
in sticky strings —
her dreams fulfilled
by spiderlings.
