Nanny Knows Best (Poetry)
17th February 2025
We all must do what Nanny says
or we’ll be sorry — just you wait!
the big bad wolf skulks round the door
it’s dark outside — the hour’s late
Good children do as they are told
simply obey — as well they should
and never question for they know
it really is for their own good
What Nanny tells us must be true
her rules are fair — she never lies
we have to show her due respect
and trust her judgement to be wise
We make allowances despite
she contradicts herself a lot
and often makes no sense at all —
comes out with flipping Tommyrot!
We humour her, the mad old bird
and bluff along — play out our hand
she’s lost her grip — her ostrich head
long-buried deep in fascist sand
If Nanny knew we see right through
the rumours she presents as facts
she’d pop those pills that ‘cure’ fake ills
and queue for one more Covid vaxx
