No Illusions (Poetry)
10th November 2013
I met a mad-eyed man today
who told me that the earth was flat
I questioned what he had to say
and argued fiercely — tit for tat.
He stated cruelly God was not
the answer — no one held the key
and all religion equalled rot —
there was no true reality.
His words were swordblades cutting deep
through strings that tied my life in place
not one illusion left to keep
since memory forgot his face.
His was the voice that killed belief
the whisper growing to a roar
he stole the future — time’s sly thief —
and picked the lock on each cell door.
For no one’s free — that vision’s lost
yet still I argued in my head
afraid to calculate the cost
of sudden truth so bluntly said.

He stated cruelly God was not
