No One Rescues The Hero (Poetry)

When suddenly the chips are down
the strong man tumbles to the ground
the one that always gave a hand
to those who stumbled in the past

And now his own world falls apart
the sky is falling overhead
and he who saved and shouldered up
needs help from someone else instead

Before they always looked to him
the one with strength to take control
who had the courage and the will
that saw things through with quiet resolve

But now he’s stricken and laid low
as vulnerable as any man
seeking aid — compassion’s voice
to let him know he’s not alone

There is a doubt that claws away
no one will recognise his plight
they’ve cast him as the rescuer
his role is set — he’s on his own
