No One There To See (Poetry)
05th May 2019
The leaf clings to the tree
an old tree that’s in the park
the moon hides deep in clouds
and the air hangs thick with dark
There’s a rustling in the leaves
and high branches creak and sway
the green man shakes in sleep
plagued by nightmares of decay
The silent owl swoops low
a church mouse gives up his life
shame there’s no one there to see
his poor gift of sacrifice
A sharp wind cuts the stem
and the leaf it tumbles down
but such little deaths don’t count
in the heartless heart of town
an old tree that’s in the park
the moon hides deep in clouds
and the air hangs thick with dark
There’s a rustling in the leaves
and high branches creak and sway
the green man shakes in sleep
plagued by nightmares of decay
The silent owl swoops low
a church mouse gives up his life
shame there’s no one there to see
his poor gift of sacrifice
A sharp wind cuts the stem
and the leaf it tumbles down
but such little deaths don’t count
in the heartless heart of town
