No Proof (Poetry)

12th August 2012
Who are you to tell me who I am?
My identity has never been less certain —
all is doubt and guesswork.

But who am I to tell you you are wrong? —
If I am no one...

Yet if no one tells you you are wrong
it’s always just possible
you may be right.

There is a chance — but chance is not enough.
Someone always needs the proof —
cast iron — written in stone —
words on paper not the stuff
anybody’s made of.

So who am I really? —
Which version? —
Yours or mine?
