No Spark (Poetry)
19th May 2013
He swore he truly loved her
but guile infused his tone
betraying he’d some other
agenda of his own.
The words rang trite and hollow
she froze a painful wince —
his claim too crass to swallow
too earnest to convince
for there was something missing
however hard he tried
to wear her down with kissing
her instinct warned he lied.
She vowed she’d never waver —
refused him hand and heart
aware the thrill he gave her
lacked passion’s honest spark.
Alone with all her millions
she ponders on Love’s cost
and yearns for far pavilions —
romantically lost.

she froze a painful wince —
his claim too crass to swallow
too earnest to convince
