No Way Back (Poetry)
20th April 2025
There’s no way back —
the die is cast
the route is closed
I’ve lost the past
and now the moon
floats cold and wan
I cannot find
where I began.
The path ahead
twists narrow, dim
and full of shadows
aching-thin
each breath a struggle
to recall
the reason I’m
still here at all.
It matters not
which thought I turn
old memories
were doomed to burn
the ashes blow
to cloud my mind
like ghosts who follow
on behind.
Each day is little
more than night
in paler clothes
small scraps of light
filter through
pick out the track
no signs to show
there’s no way back.
the die is cast
the route is closed
I’ve lost the past
and now the moon
floats cold and wan
I cannot find
where I began.
The path ahead
twists narrow, dim
and full of shadows
aching-thin
each breath a struggle
to recall
the reason I’m
still here at all.
It matters not
which thought I turn
old memories
were doomed to burn
the ashes blow
to cloud my mind
like ghosts who follow
on behind.
Each day is little
more than night
in paler clothes
small scraps of light
filter through
pick out the track
no signs to show
there’s no way back.
