Not Long Now (Poetry)
20th July 2011
Not long now — the daylight
is already growing dim
and the moment presses like a hand
upon the shoulder
reminding that it’s late
the sun’s gone in
and dusk is kind — allowing time
to contemplate —
a limbo where we wait
the coming dark
advancing through the trees
across the hills and lakes
to claim us, wrap us round
prepare us for eternities
spent cauled in darkness —
moonless, starless —
the rolling heavens’ flesh —
blood singing in our ears.
is already growing dim
and the moment presses like a hand
upon the shoulder
reminding that it’s late
the sun’s gone in
and dusk is kind — allowing time
to contemplate —
a limbo where we wait
the coming dark
advancing through the trees
across the hills and lakes
to claim us, wrap us round
prepare us for eternities
spent cauled in darkness —
moonless, starless —
the rolling heavens’ flesh —
blood singing in our ears.
