Notes For A Poem (Poetry)

These words may be all
very well as an
aid to memory —
a simple outline
noting an idea

But it’s where to start
that is the bugbear
the moment where the
story should begin
its strange genesis

Then how to unfold
describe emotions
using such skills as
might prove effective
to make the lines ring

For language is so
often elusive
ordinary words
seem insufficient
when hunting rare prey

Sometimes it’s best to
leave inspiration
let it mature in
the dark for a year
before adopting
