Nothing Else Remains (Poetry)

27th January 2013
Today’s another field —
its snow untrod
I waver at the edge
squint-narrow light
slanting through night’s hedge
thorns bared to bite.

The moment lies unpeeled
tired heartbeats plod
seeds refuse to grow
ideas turn cold
chill thought-winds blow
all passion old.

                                Alas, this view won’t yield
                                a sight of God —
some vision flaming on the hill
                                and love stood yearning
                                fired with words until
                                the whole world’s caught
                                                                and burning...

No mystery revealed
I drift and nod
winter in my veins
blood frozen in the pen
nothing else remains
but dream                                 and dream again.
