Noughts And Crosses (Poetry)

05th May 2016
They’re having a local election
not a face in the line-up we know
biographies crafted like fiction
so it’s no big surprise we won’t show.

The whole thing is such a palaver
reality pales at the thought
those dreams of democracy’s father
have dwindled to symbolize nought.

The cross in the box mere admission
it’s just some placatory game
to allay an uneasy suspicion
win or lose the result is the same.
