Obsession (Poetry)

31st March 2025
I felt the wish within me
curled like a phantom child
whispering so softly
ambitions sounding mild

It grew into a longing
devouring each thought
my reason ripped as hemlines
on wild thorn bushes caught

This longing suffocated
erasing lesser need
good sense was surely drowning
the cards were plain to read

Desire can turn one crazy
when left to roam unchecked
a monster past all taming
it leaves a body wrecked

A wish might seem quite harmless
as fancy or mere whim
but curb the flighty passion
employ strict discipline

Unleashed it can prove fatal
unhinges sanity
the inner landscape darkened
to obscure reality
