Occupational Hazards (Poetry)

06th September 2015
Enamoured of an autioneer
I welcomed bids right from the start —
he undersold my priceless heart —
going — going — gone.

I met a macho mountaineer
so clumsy in his first attempt
to conquer me — his style unkempt —
all romance turned to stone.

Seduced by a suave balladeer
who serenaded for a lark —
inviting duets in the dark —
a one-night baritone

I opted for a pioneer
adventurer — a daring chap
our assignations off the map
and strangely twilight-zone.

I latched on to an engineer
and oh the future we had planned! —
but blueprints change and ours were damned —
the big design unknown.

Next, a Christian volunteer —
a Hell-and-Brimstone kind of guy
whose mission clearly passed me by —
he didn’t text or phone.

So I became a mutineer —
careless of the soppy rules
aboard a ship of love-sick fools —
grown selfish to the bone.
