Ode To Peace And Quiet (Poetry)

22nd January 2023
Let me sleep through the mist of another grey morning
allow me to drift through my dwindling days
so my pain-weary heart can find temporary refuge
and rest undisturbed out of harm’s busy ways

This world is too frantic for one who loves silence
it tears through the nerves like some runaway train
I need to slow down for such speed makes me dizzy
and the noise overwhelms every thought in my brain

Life used to be simple — its rhythms more gentle
it still had its problems but now they seem few
compared with these days when the pressures are fatal
and so many fall in the fight to get through

So give me some peace — let me nod through the hours
kept safe from the hubbub and surge of the crowd
existence is killing the quiet generations
its pulse driven manic, its gossip too loud
