Old Neighbourhood (Poetry)

22nd January 2022
It’s a badly-scripted saga —
smacks of soap-ish stained with sin
extras knock her door uncertain
if the drama queen is in

They’re unschooled so conversation
fires the odd four-lettered word
aiming bulletfuls of cliché
hence the argument’s absurd

The casting’s quite obnoxious —
not a brain cell is on show
every scene turns buttock-clenching
sex ‘n’ drugs is all they know

It’s so tedious and tiresome
how we’d love to pull the plug!
but real life just keeps repeating
as though graves had not been dug

There’s no white hats here — just outlaws
loud and ugly-sounding dumb
so we’re rounding up the posse
there’s a shoot-out set to come

For it’s time to clear the bugs out
that well-worn but fitting phrase
such a pity this old neighbourhood
has seen much better days
