On Fire Again (Poetry)

19th May 2013
This fire has been rekindled from a spark
and now its flames burn higher than before
since ash long-cooled and swept into the dark
kept an inferno secret at its core.

Fire melts those barriers imagined strong
eats reason clean away as hunger grows
consumes all flesh acknowledging no wrong
this blast of heat and smoke where passion blows.

The blood inside slow-boils its swelling lake
invisibly the level starts to rise
’til all that’s physical begins to ache
and danger courts incendiary eyes.

Each thought’s a glowing brand to scorch the soul
unquenchable love’s resurrected sun
its conflagration fierce — beyond control
and fanned by foolish dreams goes raging on.
