Once I've Gone (Poetry)

22nd January 2022
You do not need to miss me
the minute I am gone
I’m leaving you a poem
for lingering upon

It could well tell you something
that I forgot to say
as solace for long seasons
my thoughts have gone astray

I’m bound to travel lonesome
my suitcase shrunk too small
to pack another chapter in
my story’s grown too tall

I’ve dreamed a foolish fiction
(though you’ve been real to me)
a paper-thin conclusion
to life’s futility

It was some flight of fancy
that I’ve been working on
which I trust you’ll edit freely
the moment that I’m gone
