One For The Road (Poetry)
19th May 2024
I don’t know if I’ll make it home
the world seems turned about
there’s voices whispering in trees
and no one hears me shout
I walked the streets I thought I knew
but they led me astray
and where I’ve ended up is strange
I need to get away
But it doesn’t seem to matter which
direction I might take
I end up here whatever choice
I simply can’t escape
The trees speak on in foreign tongues
I sit and wait my fate
the temperature is dropping fast
the hour’s getting late
I’m longing for my soft warm bed
but not tonight I fear
I toddle tipsy one more time
and curse the demon Beer
the world seems turned about
there’s voices whispering in trees
and no one hears me shout
I walked the streets I thought I knew
but they led me astray
and where I’ve ended up is strange
I need to get away
But it doesn’t seem to matter which
direction I might take
I end up here whatever choice
I simply can’t escape
The trees speak on in foreign tongues
I sit and wait my fate
the temperature is dropping fast
the hour’s getting late
I’m longing for my soft warm bed
but not tonight I fear
I toddle tipsy one more time
and curse the demon Beer
