Options (Poetry)

24th April 2012
The road not taken beckons —
that turning miles behind —
I took the broader highway
then, lately, changed my mind.

Each chance forsaken haunts me —
imagination plays
with endless permutations
to fill my wistful days —

those doors I failed to open
a love I dared reject
a death too feared to dice with
a fate I can’t accept —

I’d blame bad luck — some mojo —
but still the inner voice
reminds me like a mother
that I always had the choice.
