Out Of The Ruins (Poetry)

02nd June 2024
I had a dream once
the sort young girls have
of rose-perfect love
and a life fulfilled
hope makes possible

As events played out
disappointment came
turn and turn about
sunshine followed rain
time stretched plentiful

Past the halfway point
and no going back
life had settled down
trod a modest track
when disaster struck

And the dream was killed
like a tall pine torched
by a lightning bolt
then my heart stood still
burning cold with shock

Out of the ruins
shrugging off despair
hope’s seed surviving
weathers fate’s affair
hardy as fireweed
