Outwardbound - A Lyric (Poetry)

05th May 2019
I’ve been hunting for hope
in unlikely places
turning the leaves
kicking over the traces
reading new books
and searching old faces
but hope’s nowhere to be found

I’ve been panning for gold
in dark lonely rivers
the night’s bitter cold
offers nothing but shivers
the idea slowly dies
it weakens and withers
like some creature gone to ground

I’ve been looking for love
in a penny arcade
they advertise wine
but it’s cheap lemonade
the music they’re playing
completes the charade
the songs have a hollow sound

So I’m packing up shop
and I’m moving away
with nothing to lose
no reason to stay
time waits for no one
so I’m leaving today
I’ll be heading outwardbound
