Picasso's Dancers (Poetry)

The Three Dancers — a painting by Pablo Picasso

A naked rapture caught in frenzied floods
of music we imagine we can hear
from gestures so extravagant — a waltz
interpreted emphatically — three heads
thrown back — eyes glazed — unseeing
arms flung wide
the geometric shadows falling — and outside
blue rectangles of sky frame their display.

A jazz theme mix — a modern ballet form
spontaneous and different every time
they let those rhythms move them —
giving in to primitive emotion — sensual
and pouring through the body
wave on wave — to drug the dizzy mind
with ritual — while feet follow a pattern
instinct-led to freedom.
