Pillow Talk (Poetry)
20th April 2014
I imagine that he lies there
in the dark
talking to her as they did in life
him sleepless — sharing thoughts
like couples do
her drowsy — barely listening
while he goes through
all the trivia
just to get it off his chest
for only then
will he be free
to get some rest.
Two pillows on the bed
though she’s been gone
a dozen years
yet he keeps to his side
as though she’s there —
a place to lay her head
another soul in whom
he can confide...
And maybe on the edge of sleep
he might
hear her soft voice wishing him
“Good night”.
in the dark
talking to her as they did in life
him sleepless — sharing thoughts
like couples do
her drowsy — barely listening
while he goes through
all the trivia
just to get it off his chest
for only then
will he be free
to get some rest.
Two pillows on the bed
though she’s been gone
a dozen years
yet he keeps to his side
as though she’s there —
a place to lay her head
another soul in whom
he can confide...
And maybe on the edge of sleep
he might
hear her soft voice wishing him
“Good night”.
