Poems Written In A Time Of Plague (Poetry)

22nd January 2023
They rise in protest — haunt the night
small yelps of pain that measure fear
of darkness swallowing all sight
as shadows swarm and cluster near

A few brave thoughts march forth to war
then tumble back and wounded drop
as silent as they were before
life shuddered — slowed — came to a stop ...

Words lie abed in rigid rows
plagued by nightmares — racked by doubt
if we’ll survive God only knows
as rumours find their own way out

While panic paces wall to wall
sleepless yet some hearts beat strong
and harken to the rally’s call
no funeral dirge but rousing song

The pen’s a bold and shining sword
a weapon forged to dragon-slay
the beast that ravages abroad
invisible by night or day

Each verse evokes a spirit still
and courage fights the hand of Fate
we live or die by strength of will
so grit our teeth. Sit tight. And wait
