Poet On A Tree (Poetry)

It’s said certain things
do not grow on trees
like money or love
things valued as these
not easily found

Most people aren’t rich
some live like church mice
and true love shines rare
as wisdom’s advice
lost deep underground

Verse strikes like a plague
composing’s faint cure
that eases few sick
consoles less dirt-poor
than ditties slow-drowned

Now I’m swinging here
hung high on a bough
so lately inspired
yet struggling how
to spread truth around

There’s thousands of us
strung up in tall trees
as common as muck
cursed mad with disease
and seldom book-bound
