Precious To Someone (Poetry)
02nd June 2024
They might not look much —
this box of baubles
nothing of value
or genuine worth
just gilt and glitter
They were the fashion
these bits of whimsy
all imitation
and yet still precious
to one who wore them
They were her treasure
from high street counters
that sold fake glamour
rainbows of jewels
glass beads and plastic
Bought for the style and
fun of wearing them
made her feel special
when out on the town —
those all-dressed-up nights ...
Now down at Oxfam
price tickets dangle
give no clue how much
they once meant to her —
they might have been gold
this box of baubles
nothing of value
or genuine worth
just gilt and glitter
They were the fashion
these bits of whimsy
all imitation
and yet still precious
to one who wore them
They were her treasure
from high street counters
that sold fake glamour
rainbows of jewels
glass beads and plastic
Bought for the style and
fun of wearing them
made her feel special
when out on the town —
those all-dressed-up nights ...
Now down at Oxfam
price tickets dangle
give no clue how much
they once meant to her —
they might have been gold
