Proposal (Poetry)
14th May 2019
I will be your little bird
if you will be my tree
I’ll cling to you through drought or flood
if you will shelter me
I’ll praise your green for all I’m worth
and sing the livelong day
my songs will bring each bud to burst
we’ll flourish come what may
In your warm crook I’ll build a nest
lay eggs as blue as sky
and teach my fledglings all I’ve learned
of love before they fly
You have a faithful wooden heart
I need a safe retreat
and in return I’m offering
the touch of grateful feet
So whisper to me in the spring —
give me your answer true
then I will be your little bird
and spend my days with you
if you will be my tree
I’ll cling to you through drought or flood
if you will shelter me
I’ll praise your green for all I’m worth
and sing the livelong day
my songs will bring each bud to burst
we’ll flourish come what may
In your warm crook I’ll build a nest
lay eggs as blue as sky
and teach my fledglings all I’ve learned
of love before they fly
You have a faithful wooden heart
I need a safe retreat
and in return I’m offering
the touch of grateful feet
So whisper to me in the spring —
give me your answer true
then I will be your little bird
and spend my days with you
