Radio Days (Poetry)
02nd December 2012
The voices on the radio
they take me back
entice me back
nostalgia tempts a pleasant ride
along some Golden Oldie track
to visit briefly, dreamy-eyed
places I so seldom go.
Then longing fills me for the past —
less troubled days
those yesterdays
when life still held a cosy glow
the future’s sun threw hope-filled rays
before the cracks began to show —
signs good weather wouldn’t last.
Recordings from that time long-gone
thoughts re-awake
emotions ache
recalling tunes I hum along
transported back — those wavelengths break
on far-off shores that echo song —
friendly voices travelling on...
they take me back
entice me back
nostalgia tempts a pleasant ride
along some Golden Oldie track
to visit briefly, dreamy-eyed
places I so seldom go.
Then longing fills me for the past —
less troubled days
those yesterdays
when life still held a cosy glow
the future’s sun threw hope-filled rays
before the cracks began to show —
signs good weather wouldn’t last.
Recordings from that time long-gone
thoughts re-awake
emotions ache
recalling tunes I hum along
transported back — those wavelengths break
on far-off shores that echo song —
friendly voices travelling on...
