Ravages (Poetry)
09th February 2025
If I once glimpsed your face again
I wonder what I’d see
I doubt long years thieved half as much
from you as they’ve from me
I think of you as much the same
affection hopes it’s so
for there’s too little left unchanged
in all we used to know
Age catches up with everyone
and often proves unkind
yet your face like a photo stays
unaltered in my mind
Now vanity has just one wish —
that you will never see
should our paths chance to cross again
how time has ravaged me
I wonder what I’d see
I doubt long years thieved half as much
from you as they’ve from me
I think of you as much the same
affection hopes it’s so
for there’s too little left unchanged
in all we used to know
Age catches up with everyone
and often proves unkind
yet your face like a photo stays
unaltered in my mind
Now vanity has just one wish —
that you will never see
should our paths chance to cross again
how time has ravaged me
