Reasonable Doubt (Poetry)
02nd December 2012
I haven’t found Jesus
because (as far as I’m concerned)
he isn’t lost
but waiting out there —
always at the centre of an eager crowd
talking about God.
I sometimes catch his eye —
a word or maybe two
filters through —
we exchange a friendly nod
or wave in passing
we haven’t spoken (not as such)
but share instead
a certain unsaid understanding.
He seems a decent sort of guy
and popular with many
it’s obvious he has a lot to say —
gives tips on righteous living
yet so far I remain unconvinced
hold on to reasonable doubt
this soul is damned unless it’s saved
or why I need forgiving.
