Reunited (Poetry)
10th March 2019
I dream I’ll soon be where you are
I reach to hold your hand
and walk along a painless road
in some uncharted land
I wish to save the jaundiced moon
from falling down the well
I’d love to hear the kind of tales
the unsung heroes tell
I’ve used up all my given lives
those scars red on my skin
I’m raw inside and aching from
the wars I couldn’t win
Though I grow old I am not wise
I only know the sum
of my mistakes — they weigh me down
regret is never done
but haunts me like an aimless ghost
who loiters pale and thin
repeating endlessly the cost
and nature of its sin
I yearn to be where you are now
my dead and much-missed friend
I long to turn the final page
and find you at the end
I reach to hold your hand
and walk along a painless road
in some uncharted land
I wish to save the jaundiced moon
from falling down the well
I’d love to hear the kind of tales
the unsung heroes tell
I’ve used up all my given lives
those scars red on my skin
I’m raw inside and aching from
the wars I couldn’t win
Though I grow old I am not wise
I only know the sum
of my mistakes — they weigh me down
regret is never done
but haunts me like an aimless ghost
who loiters pale and thin
repeating endlessly the cost
and nature of its sin
I yearn to be where you are now
my dead and much-missed friend
I long to turn the final page
and find you at the end
