Revenge (Served Au Naturel) (Poetry)

16th June 2015
I swear I saw a tree today
reach down and grab an unsuspecting
grounds maintenance contractor
twigs formed an eco-friendly green garrotte
and throttled him in seconds on the spot
the strimmer falling from his hands
hit earth, which duly opened up
and swallowed whole the man
plus his cruel weapon
the grass grew over in a trice
to leave no trace
it was nice to hear
sated silence stretch and yawn
like nothing much had happened
justice served — no frills, no fuss.

As for me, I’m keeping mum
I might have seen him disappear
but who’d believe a conservationist?
Anyway, on balance I would say
he got what he deserved.
