Romeo Is Waiting (Poetry)
13th September 2026
Do I need to put my hand up —
ask if I may leave the room?
There’s a place I have to get to
and I should be leaving soon
There’s an old amour who’s waiting
he’s been patient for so long
and his faithful heart is pounding
love’s wild rhythms good and strong
Every thought a homing pigeon
winging westwards in its flight
with a memory to guide it
and the gift of future sight
There’s a land across some ocean
a bright Valhalla bathed in gold
where departed spirits gather
as the legends all foretold
Since this world’s turned dark and loveless
it’s no place to linger on
life is painful in its story
and the will to fight is gone
I can feel the room grow colder
and his voice is calling low
please excuse the interruption
it is high time I should go
ask if I may leave the room?
There’s a place I have to get to
and I should be leaving soon
There’s an old amour who’s waiting
he’s been patient for so long
and his faithful heart is pounding
love’s wild rhythms good and strong
Every thought a homing pigeon
winging westwards in its flight
with a memory to guide it
and the gift of future sight
There’s a land across some ocean
a bright Valhalla bathed in gold
where departed spirits gather
as the legends all foretold
Since this world’s turned dark and loveless
it’s no place to linger on
life is painful in its story
and the will to fight is gone
I can feel the room grow colder
and his voice is calling low
please excuse the interruption
it is high time I should go
