Rose-Tinted Glasses (Poetry)

19th January 2025
Sometimes memory
embraces romance
enhancing details
of what otherwise
would have seemed mundane

Bored with recounting
the same old story
buffs it up a bit
adds extra colour
to the basic truth

There’s no intent to
deceive or mislead
no deliberate
attempt to tamper
with or change the past ...

So strange going back
how small the house felt
and how grey the street
like time had sucked dry
a former life’s shell

while memories keep
a glowing version
curled into corners
where undisturbed ghosts
nod warm in their sleep
