Ruined Farmhouse (Poetry)
20th July 2011
These stones will not stand down
stubborn in their ranks
shoulder to shoulder they brace themselves
against the wind’s attack
rebuff its angry swarm
its sly-swung hack and slice.
Rough-hewn they show their grit
refuse to topple or give way
to wild and furious waves
the whoops of rule-less war.
And although they shelter nothing —
no one to protect from passing storms —
they soldier here in spite
of how the world moves on
their duty simple —
unflinchingly, they fight
until the elements undo them at the end
and break each solid one.
stubborn in their ranks
shoulder to shoulder they brace themselves
against the wind’s attack
rebuff its angry swarm
its sly-swung hack and slice.
Rough-hewn they show their grit
refuse to topple or give way
to wild and furious waves
the whoops of rule-less war.
And although they shelter nothing —
no one to protect from passing storms —
they soldier here in spite
of how the world moves on
their duty simple —
unflinchingly, they fight
until the elements undo them at the end
and break each solid one.
