Rumours (Poetry)

22nd May 2011
So much of life is not the way it seems —
a world of multi-layers that disguise
while stories change according to the schemes
of those who veil reality with lies
as rumour begets rumour — most believe
the gossip they are told and seldom doubt
or question — blindly credulous — naive —
too eager to accept ’til they find out
the version swallowed whole was merely part —
a fiction crafted carefully to scale
small facts omitted at the very start
eventually reveal a different tale...
But few will challenge — fewer still will fight
to find what’s true and hold it to the light.
