Scene At Dusk (Poetry)

Silhouettes in mute appeal
stand anxious as the shadows steal
to shroud the lonely trees
with misty-thin meanderings
festooning limbs devoid of breeze
and haunted by strange whisperings.
Witnessing the sun’s demise,
defiant in the aching skies,
but grey remorseless menace fills
each empty field and lane
with darkening pools that flood the hills
and night holds court again.
