Self-Help (Poetry)
13th September 2026
I didn’t want to be like me
I never had a choice
I’m wishing I was someone else
without this nagging voice
I’m not someone I’d want to know
or pick to be a friend
I’m rather easy to ignore —
I don’t stand out — I blend
I used to be more positive
but now, too often, find
I’m swamped by negativity —
an absent frame of mind
My shelves are crammed with ‘How to’ books
they gather dust unread
whatever wisdom I once learned
has leaked out of my head
I long to change but find it hard
to stick to any plan
unless I do (Oh God forbid!)
I’m stuck with who I am
I never had a choice
I’m wishing I was someone else
without this nagging voice
I’m not someone I’d want to know
or pick to be a friend
I’m rather easy to ignore —
I don’t stand out — I blend
I used to be more positive
but now, too often, find
I’m swamped by negativity —
an absent frame of mind
My shelves are crammed with ‘How to’ books
they gather dust unread
whatever wisdom I once learned
has leaked out of my head
I long to change but find it hard
to stick to any plan
unless I do (Oh God forbid!)
I’m stuck with who I am
