Sharing A Silence (Poetry)

16th June 2025
There is nothing to be said
so we sit around in silence now
thinking very different thoughts
the sort unshared
because they are too fragile
and to speak the words aloud
would shatter them
like the thinnest ice
on childhood’s imaginary lake
the frozen frogs all sworn
to secrecy’s deep dream

The moments stretch to miles apart
with neither questioning
the other’s whereabouts
too absorbed
in our own wanderings within
the vastly private territory
we hardly know ourselves
yet confident
when we return again
we’ll find each other just the same
glance up at the clock
and trade sigh for wistful sigh
